Community Mapping Study

This study was designed to gather information about the physical and social environment and the programs and services available in the community. The goal of this study was to identify risk factors, strengths, and assets of the community.

Readiness to Learn

The Early Development Instrument (EDI) assesses senior kindergarten students' readiness to learn in five areas:

• physical health and well-being
• social competence
• emotional maturity
• language and cognitive development
• communication skills and general knowledge

The National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) gathers data from parents and children in terms of:

• receptive or hearing vocabulary skills
• developmental level
• understanding of numbers
• behaviour outcomes

This component focused on detailing local agencies and programs available to Dixie Bloor's families and caregivers with young children.
